"This one of Paper Gods has been one of our most successful tours ever: we've been around for two years and we keep adding dates," reveals 55-year-old Nick Rhodes, Duran Duran's keyboardist, the iconic British band on stage led by Simon Le Bon, who redefined pop in the 80s with an endless list of hits and over 100 million copies sold. Between ups and downs, side projects and some minor changes in training, the group has never stopped because - as Rhodes says - "retirement income is from pensioners". So after Paper Gods, the fourteenth album released in 2015, come to us with the only Italian concert of this 2017 on August 31 at the Treviso Home Festival.
I bring a message from the fans: why do not you sacrifice some hits in the live in favor of other great songs less known by the mass?
"For completely pragmatic reasons: time is limited, people want to hear successes and for us it is important to play the new songs to inform the public about our evolutions. But we would love to do different live in the future. We've talked about it many times, maybe a series of shows with all minor tracks and even sides b ».
If being part of a group is like being married, what is the secret of your marriage?
"First of all it's" open ": we all participated in other projects but if we stay together it's because we know we share something unique, the chemistry that makes you stronger than you would be individually. Then we like our company, we have fun but now we know each other incredibly well, we know how to respect each other ».
Da quasi 40 anni...
For almost 40 years ...
«Rather extraordinary considering that it is a goal difficult to achieve even in relationships. We feel like a family: there are groups that can not share the same room and then jump together on a stage. We could never: how can you play honest music if you can not even stand the members of your band? "
Avete iniziato da teenager: neppure allora eravate in competizione?
You started as a teenager: did not you compete at the time?
"Maybe when the fan mail arrived, we competed for those who received more letters. It was always John, for the record (Taylor, the bassist, ed). The fact is that we have chosen the principle intelligently and not to plug holes. Thinking of a sustainable future. Then the story went beyond our wildest dreams. But the initial vision certainly provided for lasting over time ".
Is it true that when you were at the height of success, you were in charge of restraining excesses?
"If I was, I do not think I've always done a good job. For the first six years our life has been a series of roller coasters. At one point we had to stop, or something bad would happen: all too out of control. "
Colpa di chi o cosa?
Fault of whom or what?
"Of nobody in particular. We seemed to live in an unreal world. We could not walk down the street, go buy a newspaper, we were prisoners inside the hotels or in our homes. For a while I also went to live in Paris, London had become impossible for me. "
Is it true that you and John Taylor are working on a musical?
"Yes, but it is a project completely separate from the Duran Duran that we started five years ago and we hope to finish by the end of the year, maybe once the tour is over".
Cosa ci può anticipare?
What can you anticipate?
«That will be 90 minutes of unpublished music and a dark futuristic history, set in the art world».

"Wow, such a long time? When we met her she was always so kind to us ... She had a great sense of humor, she laughed so much with her. It gave off a beautiful energy, so when it came to be missing the world was in mourning. I will never forget the ocean of flowers in front of Kensington Palace. "
Perché secondo lei l’Italia vi ama tanto?
Why do you think Italy loves you so much?
«I do not know, but certainly there was something that immediately" clicked "on both sides; there is a special relationship. I fell in love with it from the first day, when I noticed that, unlike other countries, in Italy there is a high quality of life and fun, with the simplest things ».
